When you see folders like that, the obvious urge is to drag and drop your tasks into them. But it won’t work: your tasks will be moved in the bottom of folder’s page and out of the Tasks database.

or cmd
+z
) or just move these tasks back into the database (its properties will be restored too).

This is because these folders are just another database, that is connected to the Tasks database. The tasks are not actually located inside folders, instead they are assigned to them using “Folder” property.
The quickest way to move the tasks into folder is by selecting them and assigning a folder to them.

Note, that you should expand and select all nested tasks as well, they are not selected otherwise and do not inherit their parent’s folder.

You can create tasks that are instantly linked to the right folder. You can do this in two ways: grouping and filters. When grouping or filtering is turned on, then Notion tries to fit the newly created page to the criteria.
Note: if Notion fails to fit the criteria automatically, it means that the filters are too complex to infer the right property values automatically, and the newly created task will open in a peek view mode, allowing you to assign the necessary properties manually.
Here when you create a new task in a folder group, it will be linked to this folder automatically. Sub-items too.
If you open a task folder page, you’ll see views of tasks in it that are filtered by this folder.
So when you create a new task in this view, it will automatically link it to the folder you opened (”1. Work” folder in this example).
You can also drag and drop tasks from group to group, or from view with one filter to the view with another filter. When doing so, Notion will also try to automatically fit the criteria. And if it couldn’t fit the criteria the page will still be in the database, but it will be filtered out in the view where you dropped it, hence, not visible. You can search it or press ctrl/cmd
+ z
to undo.
